Site Safety Manager Training course is a comprehensive review of Chapter 33 and the Rules of City of New York that pertains to public protection. The purpose of the course is to initiate prospective candidates with safe job practices in New York City and to prepare those prospective candidates to take the Site Safety Manager’s test. The students will be introduced to the hazards of working in New York City construction environment and work practices that are necessary on an urban construction site. The 40-hour curriculum covers the new 2014 NYC Building Codes, including the requisite review of the updated Chapter 33 “Safeguards during Construction or Demolition.” This is to comply with current Federal and State regulatory standards as well as safe work practices in construction. This course is also required for the qualified and experienced construction industry personnel applying for Site Safety Manager License or registering with the NYC DOB as a Certified Site Safety Coordinator or Registered Construction Superintendent. New York City Building Department is proposing a rule, requiring a “Written Designation of a Competent Person.” It is one of the qualifications that a designated competent person satisfactorily completed a site safety manager training course that is at least 40 hours in length and is approved by the department.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Compare roles and responsibilities of New York City Department of Buildings licensed site safety professionals
- Recognize which rules and regulations were promulgated after serious construction accidents in New York City
- Identify safety procedures to protect public and property during construction and demolition operations in New York City
- Define construction fire protection and prevention methods that comply with the New York City Fire Code.
- Describe communication procedures between New York City Department of Buildings and licensed site safety professionals
- Distinguish between the OSHA standards and New York City Department of Buildings Chapter 33 regulations
Once you have passed the necessary exam and submitted all the necessary paperwork, you need to obtain your Site Safety Manager license.
Obtaining the Site Safety Manager License Card
Once you have passed the necessary exam and submitted all the necessary paperwork, you need to obtain your Site Safety Manager license.
- If you successfully pass the written examination and the background investigation, you will be notified in writing by the Department’s Licensing Unit stating you are eligible to apply for a Site Safety Manager Certificate.
- You have one (1) year from the date of that letter to begin submitting the required documents for your license. If you do not complete the process within one (1) year of the date on the letter, you will be required to retake the examination.
- You can make an appointment to apply for a license by calling the Licensing & Exams Unit at (212) 393-2259 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
- Application appointments are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
