EPA Lead Certification Florida Requirements

In the state of Florida, the EPA RRP Rule requires 2 certifications to perform lead-safe repairs and renovation work, both an individual and a firm certification. The steps required to become certified for each certification process are listed below.

Individuals:

Individuals must attend an 8-hour EPA-approved RRP Lead-Safe Certified Renovator Initial course. This course provides valuable hands-on training and covers all materials required to become RRP Lead-Safe certified. When you complete the course, you will receive your lead-safe renovator certificate, which is proof you completed and understood the course, and are certified. Keep this certificate on hand since you may be asked to provide it when bidding or working on projects.

Companies:

  1. In Florida, companies are required to obtain a lead-safe firm certificate. Companies looking to apply for a certificate should visit the EPA's website and submit a Lead-Safe Certified Firm Application. Your application will be reviewed by the EPA within 90 days.
  2. Once you receive your firm certificate from the EPA, keep a copy on any project work sites. You may be asked to produce it as evidence that you are certified.
