Work zone flaggers are used every day in construction job sites to provide traffic control in a
safe and orderly manner. The state of California requires flaggers to be trained in the standards and rules laid out in the California MUTCD, Section 6E.01 Qualifications for Flaggers .
Able Safety's online California Work Zone Flagger course introduces students to the key concepts, rules, and techniques of flagging and covers relevant details regarding safety and information about compliance in the state of California (Cal/OSHA), as well as federal OSHA regulations. Topics covered in the course include the fundamentals of flagging, warning sign placement, monitoring and maintaining the safe flow traffic, and signaling directions used by flaggers. Upon completing this course, students will receive a certificate of completion verifying proper training on the CA MUTCD that meets the requirements of CSO 1599.
Note: In California, it is required that the students who complete the course demonstrate proper flagging practices and procedures before being hired as a Work Zone Flagger. This requirement can be fulfilled by the employer's qualified and/or competent person observing a demonstration of skills acquired in training.
